Reviews for Errol Flynn: The Life and Career:
"As compelling as a great novel...an affectionate yet unflinching
look at the life and films of a real-life swashbuckler."
— Max Allan Collins, author of Road to
Perdition
"...a very well written, extensively researched, and lovingly
created book...this book is absolutely brilliant!...there is both
an intimacy and feeling for Flynn and, at the same time, a professionalism
with respect to the subject...it’s a well-honed tapestry of richness
done over time...Thomas McNulty has artistically crafted one fascinating
and elegant read...I strongly recommend it."
— Karl Holmberg, review at www.maskiflynn.co.uk
"Errol Flynn: The Life and Career is the best single book on Errol
Flynn yet to be written...the research that went into the making
of this book is impressive...among the book’s most impressive qualities
is its accuracy...the style throughout is a joy to read...literary
elegance...biographical writing at its best...this is a highly original
work...because McNulty has found and faithfully reproduced so many
of these obscure, hard-to-find things – especially critical documents
and remembrances of Flynn which otherwise would have been permanently
lost – future generations already owe him an enormous debt...McNulty
has gifted the world with an encyclopedic account that provides
the first fully documented, carefully composed, and ultimately sympathetic
reflection on Flynn’s life and work..."
— Lincoln D. Hurst, Ph.D., review at www.warriorfilmmakers.com
"Errol Flynn: The Life and Career by Thomas McNulty is so refreshing
– and sorely needed...this is probably the most well thought out
volume on Flynn simply because McNulty refuses to be a hack...his
research is quite good, utilizing many diverse sources, and most
of his opinions are grounded with good common sense...the result
is the most balanced take on him ever achieved by an author."
— Laura Wagner, Classic Images
"Thomas McNulty’s new biography...explores the public face as well
as the turmoil and angst behind the scenes...his analysis of his
personal and professional relationships is especially intriguing...McNulty
does an excellent job uncovering the facts of Flynn’s life versus
the myth that has been propagated throughout the years and his book
will surely become an authoritative text...well-researched and thorough."
— Erin Hill-Parks, Film & History
"Thomas McNulty has written an excellent book about Errol Flynn...this
book is balanced and written with an understanding spirit...particularly
interesting is the transformation of Flynn from carefree to cynical,
and his incredible pursuit of knowledge.
