Michael Sheehan retired from the City Colleges of Chicago in 1994
after teaching in the English Department at Olive-Harvey College
for 26 years. He lives in Leelanau County, Michigan with his artist
wife Dona. In his spare time he is a writer, and he does a weekly
guest stint on Tuesday mornings from 9:00-10:00 on AM 580, WTCM.
The show is called Words to the Wise, and it covers the joys
and vicissitudes of the English language. Mike's program can be
heard in streaming audio from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. each Tuesday by
going to www.wtcmradio.com and
clicking on the Listen button.
Podcasts are available on the site.
Mike also maintains a blog about language at www.verbmall.blogspot.com.
It covers the same issues that crop up on his weekly radio program:
word and phrase origins, punctuation concerns, verb and pronoun
agreement, historical aspects of English, and many other items of
concern to writers and readers.

In addition to the Society of Midland Authors, he is also a member of the
Dictionary Society of North America and Michigan Writers. He writes
frequently for The Vocabula Review at http://www.vocabula.com/index.asp.
Sheehan hosts a radio program every Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 with
Ron Jolly on WTCM, Talk Radio 580, Traverse City, Michigan. The show, which
features call-ins, is called Words to the Wise, and it focuses on the joys
and the tribulations of the English language.
Sheehan is highly involved in senior issues. He is a member of the advisory
board of the Bay Area Senior Advocates, a consortium of service
providers in the Traverse City, Michigan, area. He also serves on
the advisory board of the Area Agency on Aging of northwest Michigan,
and in 2011 he was appointed to the Commission on Services to the
Aging by Michigan's Governor.
He maintains The Senior Corner, a web site for senior citizens, at
http://seniors.tcnet.org/. Sponsored by the Traverse Area District Library, it
contains articles for seniors, extensive listings of local services available
to seniors, and a large set of links to remote sites which focus on senior
issues.
As an offshoot of his internet activities, Sheehan teaches classes at
Traverse City's Senior Center. The classes are designed to help older
residents become more proficient at gleaning information from the World Wide
Web and communicating with others, thus breaking the cycle of isolation which
plagues many seniors.
He plans to return to novel writing as soon as he gets some free time.
