Laura Mazzuca Toops

Author Laura Mazzuca Toops is a Chicago-based writer with more than 20 years of professional experience. Her writing, editing, and reporting activities include stints at Chicago's legendary City News Bureau and Crain Communications, as well as freelance work for numerous publications including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Reader, West Suburban Living magazine, Lake magazine, and other local, regional and national publications. Toops also worked for five years as a film critic for the Illinois Entertainer.

Toops has four books in print: A Native's Guide to Chicago's Western Suburbs (Lake Claremont Press), The Latham Loop, Slapstick (Amber Quill Press), and Hudson Lake (Twilight Times Books). She has taught fiction writing at several local venues including the College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn, Illinois), and conducts an annual writing workshop in Lakeside, Michigan. She and her family live in Chicago’s western suburbs.
